    > Do you provide phone filters?

Yes. NetZero will provide phone jack filters for you to use in the Broadband Installation Kit. Be sure to use the filters on every phone jack where you have a phone, fax machine, or answering machine connected. Plug the filter into the jack, and the device cord into the filter to prevent interference between your DSL signal and your regular phone service.

Note that there are two types of phone filters. One filter has a single jack (or slot) that should only be connected to your telephone devices (such as phones, answering machines, and fax machines.)

Another filter provides dual jacks (or slots.) One jack is labeled DSL (this should be connected to your DSL modem.) The other jack is labeled Phone (this can be connected to your telephone device.

    > What types of devices need to be filtered?

Anything you plug in to a phone jack will need to have a DSL phone filter connected to it in order to eliminate any potential signal interference, degenerating your DSL connection. The most common devices are:

    –Telephone

    –Answering machines

    –Fax machines

    –Satellite converter box

    –Home alarm system

    –Home gaming systems

–Water Meter connected to a phone line

    > What happens if I have more than five filtered devices?

If you have more than five devices connected to your phone line with filters, you may start to notice some degradation in your DSL connection. When you have more than five devices using your phone line, you begin to put a strain on the overall signal, reducing strength and quality. You will likely not notice any change in performance for many devices, such as your phone, however, your DSL signal may be weakened, resulting in slower speeds.

If you notice a performance issue with your DSL connection, and have more than five devices using your phone line, try unplugging some to decrease the load on your phone line to help reduce the strain on your DSL signal.

    > What if I need more phone filters?

If you need more phone filters than came with your Broadband Installation Kit, you can always buy some at your local electronics store. Retailers like Best Buy, Radio Shack, Circuit City, etc all carry standard DSL phone filters. Be sure to bring one of your filters with you, in case you need help finding the correct type.

Note: It is not recommended to have more than 5 telephone devices or extensions connected in your home. Doing so might cause interference with your DSL connection even if all the devices have DSL filters installed.

    > Will I need to get any special equipment for my phone?

No. Since DSL does not affect your phone or other devices (such as your fax machine), you will not need to buy anything extra for them. Also, NetZero will provide you with phone filters to prevent interference between your DSL signal and your regular phone service.

    > Does the NetZero DSL software support Macintosh?

At this time, the NetZero DSL software does not support customers using Macintosh.

    > Can I use any DSL modem with my NetZero DSL service?

No. However, you won’t have to worry about using any other DSL modem since we provide you a DSL modem when you sign-up for service.

    > Can I use the modem and other equipment from another DSL service?

In order to use NetZero DSL, you will have to use the DSL modem we provide in your Broadband Installation kit. Your kit will arrive approximately one week after you place your order. NetZero DSL does not support the use of modems from other DSL services.

    > What if I only have one phone jack in my home?

One of the phone filters provided in your NetZero DSL Broadband Installation Kit will serve as phone jack splitters. You’ll be able to connect both your phone and your NetZero DSL modem to the same phone jack.
