I can't hear my modem dial

In an effort to ensure that you achieve a smooth connection to the Internet to enjoy quality Internet access, we have improved our dialer by allowing you to select multiple access numbers to dial.

If one number is busy or experiencing trouble, the NetZero dialer tries the next available number until a successful connection can be established. If the dialer has to try several numbers, it may take some time to get you connected. Rather than hear your modem repeatedly making noise, we thought you would enjoy watching videos while the connection is being established. Once the connection is completed and the Companion appears, the NZTV window will disappear, leaving you free to browse the Internet as you please.

If you would like to hear your modem while you are being connected, complete the steps below:

  1. Double-click the NetZero icon on your desktop.
  2. On the Welcome screen, click Settings.
  1. On the Welcome to NetZero Setup screen, click Connection.
  1. On the Choose a Connection Type window, next to the text Would you like to mute the modem? click the circle next to No.
  1. Click Finish to return to the Welcome screen.

You will now hear your modem dial as you connect. If you wish to mute the modem again, just repeat the process, but select Yes for the mute modem option.
