What is the Credit Card security ID or code? Where do I find this on my card?

Each credit card company — Visa, MasterCard, American Express & Discover — place a special security ID number or CVM code on each card as a means of fraud prevention. Merchants ask for your Credit Card security ID or code to verify that the card is in your possession for added protection against unauthorized usage.

To find the security ID number or CVM code on your credit card:
For Visa, MasterCard, and Discover, these are the last 3-digits printed on the signature panel on the back of the card.

For American Express, these are the 4-digits printed above your account number on the front of the card.
