What is Norton AntiSpyware?

Programs that are classified as security risks, including Spyware and Adware, can compromise your personal information and privacy. Some of the programs perform dangerous activities, including logging keystrokes and exporting sensitive data such as bank account numbers, credit card details, and passwords without your consent.

They may change security settings, attempt to disable AntiVirus or security software, or install additional programs without permission. Other programs may perform less harmful activities such as keeping track of Web sites you visited in order to deliver customized advertising content.

Norton AntiSpyware security risk protection includes:

Security risk scan
  • By default, manual and scheduled scans search for spy ware, Ad ware, and other security risks. On Windows XP and Windows2000, Auto-Protect scans for these items as well.
  • Security risk restore
  • If a scan removes a security risk program that another program relies on for functionality, you can restore the security risk program using Quarantine.
  • Security risk assessment
  • If you are unsure how to handle a program classified as a security risk, you can view the security risk assessment, which describes the level of impact a security risk program has on your computer. You can access the security risk assessment from the Detail View, which is available when scan results require input before resolving a security risk program.
  • Norton AntiSpyware has multi-layered scanning, including:

    • Auto-Protect: A real-time scanner that automatically detects security risks by monitoring all files accessed on your computer or downloaded from the Internet.
    • Full System Scan: A comprehensive scan of your entire computer for security risks.

Note: Security risks represent all nonviral threats such as spyware and adware.

    • Norton QuickScan: A fast scan of the areas of your computer that are the most likely to be affected by security risks.
    • Intrusion Prevention Technology: A real-time scanner that protects your computer from security risks that try to use your network connection.
